Aircraft Rental & Flight Training Procedures Manual

FORWARD/COST INFORMATION

This manual is prepared as a guide for Flight School Owners and Operators, Flight Instructors, Renters, Students and all other Flight School Personnel. The manual has been developed to acquaint a ll personnel with Authority policies, and to assure the safe operation of the Flight School. An individual copy of the Procedures Manual will be issued to all Flight Instructors and Receptionist (check-in) personnel.

These procedures will provide a level of school standardization necessary to foster professionalism between student and instructor, and at the same time insure compliance with safe operating practices.

DUJ Flight Training Program

Professional and affordable Flight Training is available at DUJ to prepare you for the adventure and freedom of flying.  FAA Certified Flight Instructors (CFI) at DUJ can assist you in preparing for Private, Recreational, or Commercial Pilot Certificates.

     - Training aircraft are available at affordable rental rates at DUJ with a

       Cessna 172 Skyhawk - 4 place with Instrument Certification.  The C-172

       rents for  $87/hr., with block rates of $85/hr. for a 5-hr. block and $83/hr.

       for a 10-hr block*.

    -  Instruction by a CFI is available on flexible schedules by contacting the

       Airport Authority at 814-328-5311, M-F, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Private Pilot Training Requirements and Typical Costs:

    -  Requires a minimum of 40 hrs. of Instruction (typical student takes 60-70 hrs.)

       65 hrs. @ $83/hr. for the C-172= $5,395 plus $1.  170 Dual Instruction =

       $6,565.  Note that these are estimates based upon average student training

       times. 

    -   Complete ground school training and pass FAA Written Exam= $275

    -   Obtain a Third Class Medical Certification - Routine medical exam via an FAA

        designated medical examiner= $60

    -   Practical Test Examiners Fees= $150

    -   Instructional Materials:  $100

Total Average Cost for C-172=$7,150

The Recreational Pilot License is an entry-level certification which requires 10 hrs. less training time but has substantial operational limits when compared to the Private Pilot Certificate.
